Google DeepMind Launches Gemini Robotics 2 for Humanoids
Google DeepMind introduced Gemini Robotics 2, its next physical-AI model, alongside a separate embodied-reasoning model, Gemini Robotics ER 2, that acts as a high-level brain observing the environment, planning actions and coordinating with the vision-language-action model. In demos, Apptronik's Apollo 2 robot used a single prompt to pack for a sports game and complete fine-motor kitchen tasks, while a second demo had two different robot types collaborate to tidy a garage.
Why It Matters
Splitting reasoning from body control lets one model generalize across different robot hardware and lets robots self-correct mid-task — a structural bet on how embodied agents scale beyond single-robot demos.
