Perplexity Launches Computer: Fully-Hosted General AI Agent

Perplexity has launched Perplexity Computer — a fully-hosted general-purpose AI agent featuring threaded tasks (separate context per topic, running in parallel), hundreds of pre-built OAuth-style connectors (Gmail, Google Calendar, Notion, GitHub, Slack, Linear, Dropbox, and more), custom natural-language skill creation, and choice of orchestrator model: Opus 4.6, GPT-5.4, or Sonnet 4.6. Credit-based usage billing sits on top of a Perplexity subscription.

Why It Matters

Hosted general-purpose agents are converging on a standard shape — threads, connectors, skills, model choice — that eliminates the setup friction of self-hosted alternatives like OpenClaw. Perplexity's entry signals the category is moving from technical-user territory toward mainstream consumer adoption.
