OpenAI Brings Codex to iOS and Android — Control Agents from Phone

OpenAI launched Codex mobile clients for iOS and Android, available on all plans including free, enabling users to monitor, approve, redirect, and start long-running coding agent sessions from their smartphone. Files and credentials remain on the developer's local machine; the phone is purely the control interface. The macOS host launched first, with Windows support described as coming soon. Codex currently serves over 4 million weekly users.

Why It Matters

Mobile agent control is the ambient AI thesis in product form: coding agents can now be unblocked from anywhere, removing machine-tethering as a constraint on long-horizon automated development tasks and making continuous agent execution practical for the first time.
