Google Adds Spyware Detection to Android 16 with Amnesty

Google is shipping an Intrusion Logging feature in Android 16, developed in partnership with Amnesty International to detect advanced spyware on mobile devices. The feature is currently limited to Android 16 Pixel devices. This arrives as part of a broader coordinated Android news push from Google that also includes Android 17 previews with cross-vendor creator tools and expanded AirDrop connectivity in collaboration with Meta and Apple.

Why It Matters

A spyware detection feature co-designed with Amnesty International — which has documented commercial spyware like Pegasus in the field — carries real defensive credibility and raises the security baseline for Android users exposed to targeted surveillance.
