Anthropic Launches The Anthropic Institute with Four-Pillar Research Agenda

Anthropic has launched The Anthropic Institute (TAI), a dedicated research organization with four focus areas: economic diffusion of AI, threats and resilience (dual-use capabilities and risk mitigation), AI systems in the wild (governance of autonomous agents), and AI-driven R&D (ensuring human visibility as AI contributes to its own development). TAI is opening a four-month funded Anthropic Fellowship. Co-founder Jack Clark cited a 60% probability of recursive self-improvement by end of 2028 as a key motivator.

Why It Matters

TAI's framing makes explicit the feedback loop between Anthropic's most powerful models and existential risk research. The fellowship gives outside researchers structured access to study the same dual-use capabilities TAI is designed to contain.
